About the Product

The BLOCKsignalling SEQ1 is a model railway LED effects controller and sequence timer, designed to automatically operate lighting and scenic effects at different timed intervals for more varied and realistic model railway layouts.

The SEQ1 provides five independently timed 3.5V outputs for automatically switching LED lighting and scenic effects on and off, together with an additional permanently-on 3.5V output for effects that need to operate continuously.

Built-in timing presets make the controller quick to set up, while the on and off times of each timed output can also be individually adjusted. The timings are slightly randomised so that different effects do not repeatedly switch at exactly the same time, helping to create more natural and less repetitive model railway lighting effects.

Each output can supply up to 100mA, and multiple suitable effects can be connected to the same channel provided the combined load remains within this limit. The 3.5V outputs are suitable for many LED effects normally powered by two or three AA batteries or coin cells.

Key Features

  • Automatic model railway LED effects controller and sequence timer.
  • Five independently timed 3.5V outputs.
  • Additional permanently-on 3.5V output.
  • Up to 100mA available from each output.
  • Suitable for model railway lighting and scenic effects.
  • Multiple suitable LED effects can be connected to each channel.
  • Four built-in timing presets for quick setup.
  • Individually adjustable on and off times for each timed channel.
  • Slightly randomised timings help create more natural operation.
  • Suitable for many effects normally powered by two or three AA batteries or coin cells.
  • Built-in output test sequence.
  • On-board push button and LED for testing and programming.
  • Requires a 12V DC power supply.

Automatic Model Railway Lighting Effects

The SEQ1 automatically switches its five timed outputs independently, making it ideal for adding automatic lighting and animated scenic effects to a model railway layout.

Suitable applications include LED lighting and other low-voltage scenic effects that benefit from operating automatically at different intervals rather than remaining permanently switched on.

The timings are slightly randomised so that channels do not always change at exactly the same time. This helps prevent an obviously repetitive sequence and creates more realistic automatic operation.

One or more suitable effects can be connected to each output. Effects connected to the same channel will switch on and off together.

Built-In Timing Presets

The SEQ1 includes four built-in timing presets, allowing all five timed outputs to be configured quickly for different styles of automatic operation.

The factory setting uses Preset A, providing a mixture of different on and off periods across the five timed channels. Alternative presets provide faster sequences, medium intervals or much longer periods between effects.

The on and off timings of each channel can also be programmed individually, allowing the model railway lighting sequence to be customised to suit the layout.

Connecting LED & Scenic Effects

The SEQ1 provides 3.5V outputs with a maximum load of 100mA per output. Multiple suitable effects can be connected to an individual channel provided their combined current requirement does not exceed 100mA.

Effects connected to the same output operate together. The outputs are switched on the negative side, with the positive supply to each LED effect remaining connected while the SEQ1 switches the negative connection to turn the effect on and off.

Permanently-On Output

In addition to the five automatically timed outputs, the SEQ1 provides a permanently-on 3.5V output.

This can be used for model railway lighting or scenic effects that need to operate continuously and can also provide a reduced-voltage supply for suitable effects normally powered by two or three AA batteries or coin cells.

Output Testing

The SEQ1 includes a built-in test function to make checking your model railway lighting and effects easier.

Pressing the push button starts the test sequence, with each output switching on in turn for approximately 5 seconds. Once the test has completed, the controller continues its normal timing sequence.

Electrical Requirements

  • Supply voltage: 12V DC
  • Current consumption: Approximately 0.25A
  • Recommended power supply: 0.5A to 1A
  • Output voltage: 3.5V
  • Timed outputs: Five
  • Permanently-on outputs: One.
  • Maximum load: 100mA per output
  • Output switching: Negative-side switching

The SEQ1 should be powered from a suitable 12V DC plug-top power supply. Do not connect it to the auxiliary terminals of a train controller, as these outputs may not provide sufficiently smooth or stable power and could result in unpredictable operation or damage.

Programming

The SEQ1 includes built-in presets for straightforward setup, but individual channel timings and other settings can also be changed using the on-board push button and LED.
No computer or additional programming equipment is required.
