About the Product

The Capacitor Discharge Unit (CDU) provides a powerful, short-duration current pulse to positively “snap” points across during operation. This ensures reliable movement of the points while reducing the electrical load on the rest of the installation.

By limiting any sustained current after the initial pulse, the CDU helps prevent points motor coil burn-out caused by faults or prolonged switching. It also prevents voltage drop elsewhere on the layout while points are being operated.

Power Input Requirements

• The CDU inputs can be connected to any DC power supply up to 24V, or to an AC power supply up to 16V.
• A common connection point is the 16V AC auxiliary output typically found on model railway speed controllers.
• Input voltages must not exceed these limits to avoid damage to the unit.

Minimum Supply Voltage

• The minimum supply voltage is 12V AC or 15V DC.
• Below this level, the CDU will no longer improve the operation of the points.
